Evaluating Sources


Additional Considerations When Evaluating Websites

  • Does the domain name reveal anything about the accuracy of the information?  .edu and .gov can generally be considered credible and unbiased, while .com and .org should be carefully evaluated for authority and accuracy.
  • Is the information current?  Look for a last updated or revised date.
  • Are links functional?
  • Are there spelling, grammatical, or typographical errors?
  • Do page links lead to other websites or simply link to other pages on the same site?
  • Are there advertisements on the site, and if so, for what?
