What is PASCAL?

• Overdue notices are sent to your e-mail account. The replacement cost for a lost book is $100.
PASCAL Delivers is South Carolina’s virtual academic library which enables current students, faculty, and staff at 58 South Carolina colleges and universities to request and receive books at their home institution in just a few business days at no charge to the borrower. The statewide catalog now contains 12 million titles and is growing every day.

PASCAL Searching and Request Tips:
The catalog includes books, ebooks, videos, CDs, reference materials, etc, but you can only request print books. Also be sure to choose the correct edition of the book you need.
After clicking on the title of an item, you will see a list of all libraries that own the item and where available copies are located. If there are no available copies of the edition you selected, you can return to your search results and choose a different edition or a different catalog record for the book, if available.
In most cases, there’s no need for the borrower to choose a library, as the system will automatically select the lender. An exception would be in catalog records for a multi-volume work; in this case the borrower would select a specific volume and location.
After clicking on “Request this item,” current students, faculty, and staff are asked to choose their institution (Presbyterian College) from a pull-down menu, then are prompted for name and barcode # (include all 10 digits on the back of your PC ID card). After submitting a request, searching/ordering can be resumed.
Borrowers may have up to 25 requests at one time. Requests include borrowed books already received and any books in transit to or from a lending institution.
PASCAL Delivers uses a courier service allowing delivery within 2-4 days (Monday through Friday). Borrowers will be notified by e-mail when the books arrive. Loans are to be picked up and checked-out at the Library Circulation Desk.
The loan period is six weeks, with one renewal (3 week renewal period) allowed. Book loans should be returned to the Library Circulation Desk for return to the lending institution.
Renewals can be requested online by logging into your library record in ThomCat, the Thomason Library catalog. Click on the link to “MY LIBRARY RECORD,” located in the upper right of the screen, or click here for the link. Be sure to request renewals no sooner than 3 days prior to the due date to receive the full three week renewal period. Renewals should not be requested once the book is past due.
Overdue books result in system generated e-mail notices sent to your PC e-mail account. After three overdue notices, a bill for $100 will be sent. This amount includes a $75 replacement fee with $25 for handling. Please notify the Library Circulation Desk if a PASCAL loan is lost.
Visiting Patron Service:
You can also visit in-person another PASCAL Delivers library and check out the book yourself using the Visiting Patron service. Note that Visiting Patron checkouts have different limits from PASCAL Delivers patrons; in-person patrons are limited to three items and the checkout period for these items is three weeks with one additional three week renewal allowed. You will need to present a picture ID and know your institutional ID and the authentication code you use to request books using PASCAL Delivers.
