Search Techniques

Use the asterisk for truncation (stemming) to pull up any variations on a word stem.
Use quotation marks around a phrase to pull up the exact phrase, with no words in-between.

Keyword Search:

  • vietnam AND protest*
    • in this example, protest* will bring results for protest, protests, protesters, etc.
  • selma AND "civil rights"
  • "cold war" and (1960s OR sixties)
  • "Freedom Riders"

Once you find a book that is relevant to your topic, use the book's subject headings (located near the bottom of the book record) to help you find similar items.
